David Powers attends U.S. Chamber Small Business Conference
David Powers, chief operating officer at Ocean Breeze Awnings & More, is attending the U.S. Chamber America’s Small Business Summit, May 17-19, 2010, in Washington, D.C. Here are his observations …
Day 2 – Our day started off with a steady rain that never stopped or slowed down. We didn’t let it slow us down though. We started the day off at Washington National Cathedral. We walked our way around the grounds looking at gargoyles and then toured the inside and the crypt.
After a great lunch at Murphy’s Irish Pub, I went back to the hotel for the start of the America’s Small Business Summit. We kicked off with a short trip over to the U.S. Chamber offices across the street from the White House. Herman Cain, radio talk show host, got us warmed up with a rousing speech. Next was a panel discussion with several small business leaders. The overwhelming response from both the panelists and the audience was “We have to find a way to repeal the new health care bill. It’ll kill small business in America.” I have to admit that I agree.
The day ended with cocktails and networking at the U.S. Chamber.
Day 1- Landed in D.C. and negotiated the Metro to the hotel area. The underground train is great transportation except when two of three escalators are down and become hot, sweaty stairways. Really fun with luggage.
Ate in a French restaraunt near the hotel and had … pizza.
Looking forward to tomorrow. Reception night at the U.S. Chamber headquarters is always fun. I always hop at the chance for photos from the roof with the White House in the background. A great chance to network with folks from all over the country and Herman Cain is delivering the keynote session.
