The Fourth of July, Myrtle Beach Style!

If a day at the beach, a heaping dose of patriotism, and fireworks sound like a winning combination, Myrtle Beach is the place for you to be on July 4.fireworks

Festivities will begin with the Independence Day 8k at Market Common at 7:30 a.m., giving you a chance to enjoy a healthy start to a day of revelry.

At the conclusion of the Independence Day run, folks will have time to recover before heading to the beach to enjoy Salute from the Shore, a flyover featuring military aircrafts ranging from F-16s to classic Air Force planes from yesteryear. The flyover will begin at 1 p.m. in Cherry Grove and parallel the entire South Carolina coast.

After Salute from the Shore, a Cupcake Eating Contest at Broadway at the Beach in Heroes Harbor beckons at 2 p.m. Contestants will have five minutes to eat as many cupcakes as possible. The best part of the contest? It’s sponsored by Croissants Bistro and Bakery, maker of, arguably, the area’s best cupcakes. Everyone will be a winner in this competition!

As the evening hours approach, attention will turn to fireworks and folks have a surplus of options all along the Grand Strand. Here is a look at the July 4 fireworks celebrations in the Myrtle Beach area:

Georgetown, East Bay Park & Harborwalk, 9 p.m.

Cherry Grove Pier, North Myrtle Beach, 9:15 a.m.

Surfside Beach Pier, 9:30 p.m.

Broadway at the Beach, Myrtle Beach, 10 p.m.

Myrtle Beach Boardwalk, 2nd Avenue Pier, 10 p.m.

Murrells Inlet Marshwalk, 10 p.m.

Barefoot Landing, North Myrtle Beach, 10:15 p.m.

If you can’t wait until July 4 to start the party, we have you covered. The Murrells Inlet Boat Parade, one of South Carolina’s iconic Independence Day celebrations, will be held Saturday, July 2 at 10 a.m. The parade will begin in Garden City and float along Murrells Inlet before finishing at Morse Park Landing.

Thousands of spectators will line the inlet to celebrate country and the creativity of the decorated boats.

We look forward to celebrating America’s 240th birthday with you!

MYR Encourages Passengers Arrive Two Hours Earlier Than Departure Time

As the busy summer travel season approaches, airports around the United States including Myrtle Beach International Airport (MYR) are experiencing extremely long lines at Transportation Security Administration (TSA) security checkpoints. The airport is working with TSA and the airlines to assist with the lines and ensure that they move efficiently.

The TSA encourages passengers “arrive at the airport (a minimum of) two hours prior to flight departure for domestic travel and three hours for international travel. This allows time for parking and shuttle transportation, airline check-in, obtaining a boarding pass, and going through the security screening process, which includes screening of your carry-on baggage.”
(Source: tsa.gov/travel/frequently-asked-questions).

To ensure a more expeditious and less stressful screening process, MYR encourages passengers to familiarize themselves with the following websites before packing and leaving for the airport:
